Activity description

The Permanent Peace Movement in cooperation with the League of Arab States, organized a conference focussing on the issue arms control throughout the MENA regions. The event was funded by the German Foreign Office and supported by the Prime Minister Saad Hariri. Attended by over 80 members of parliament and representatives of varied political parties, including Lebanon’s Minister for Women’s Affairs Jean Ogasapian, UN representatives and other stakeholders, the participants discussed the problem of small and light weapons proliferation in Lebanon, and ways to improve interagency cooperation both within and between countries in the region. In his opening speech, the German Ambassador, Martin Huth, stressed the importance of the ATT and the UNPoA, two instruments that became an integral discussion point throughout the conference.
