Activity description

From 20-23 August 2018, UNLIREC, in cooperation with the Guatemalan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organized two workshops in support of the effective implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) in the country and with funding from the ATT Voluntary Trust Fund (VTF). The first workshop aimed at establishing a National Control Authority responsible for ATT implementation (20-21 August) while the second focused on the creation of national control lists in compliance with ATT provisions (23 August).  Both workshops targeted national authorities from sectors in charge of controlling conventional arms transfers or from other areas responsible for ATT implementation, such as the Directorate-General for Arms and Ammunition Control (DIGECAM), the National Civil Police, the Guatemalan Tax Authority (SAT) and more.

Project description

The workshops were part of the project activities funded by the Arms Trade Treaty Voluntary Trust Fund, of which Guatemala is a beneficiary state and in which UNLIREC, at the request of the Guatemalan authorities, is an implementing partner.
